BOLTS FALL ACADEMY

**UPDATES 8/27: Please Read

Free Open House - The Charlottesville Bolts are having a free open house this Saturday, 8/29 from 4-6pm at St. Annes's-Belfield School's Lower School fields (please arrive at 3:30-3:45 to check-in/register **be sure you have a waiver on file).  Waiver is located on cvbolts.org and we also will have hard copies on hand.

This week's free event is a coach-designed practice geared to introduce the area youth to the Bolts' fast-paced and fun style of lacrosse.  All skill levels are invited, and all skill levels will be challenged.  No experience is necessary, but all players are required to be dressed in full gear (U9 only - full pads recommended, but not required for the free open house).  We'll be giving away free ice cream/popsicles to all participants/families after the event!  Bring a friend!

**UPDATE: Expanded Bolts Fall Academy - Due to the overwhelming parent/player interest, coaching flexibility, and field availability, we are excited to announce our expanded fall offering.  The Bolts Fall Academy will officially begin on 9/5 at St. Anne's-Belfield School's Lower School fields.  In addition to our weekly Saturday practices, the U11, U13, and U15 boys are invited to attend an additional weekday practice (U11 - Monday, U13/U15 - Wednesday or Thursday).  If you can attend either of the weekly practices, great!  If you can attend both, even better!  We are adding these additional practices to encourage multi-sport and multi-child families to make the Bolts part of their fall plans.  We are offering this extra practice at no additional cost.  Two practices a week for the same price......twice as nice!

The Bolts Fall Academy will cost $190/per U11, U13, and U15 player for the 10-week program (includes free fitness training sessions).  The Bolts Fall Academy will cost $100/per U9 player for the 10-week program (U9 teams will only play locally, no travel or fitness training involved).

**UPDATE: Register Soon - We hope you have decided to join us for the rest of the fall!   Register for the Fall Academy using the bright green "Register Now" button on the Bolts website:  http://www.cvbolts.org

***Please register by 9/1 so that we may finalize arrangements on our end.  Coaching and tournament decisions will be based on registrations as of 9/1.  After 9/1, registrations will be on a "space available" basis.  If you have any questions, please contact your team administrators.

**UPDATE: Pay-to-Play format in the fall.  Travel tournaments and home/away game sets will be on a actual per/cost, per/player basis.  We plan to participate in the following tournaments and game sets this fall:

  • C2C Game Set - Sunday, Oct. 18; Charlottesville, VA
  • Seminole Fall Classic - Sunday, Oct. 25; Charlottesville, VA

**UPDATE: Calendar.  We will be distributing comprehensive tournament, game set, practice, and conditioning schedules by TEAM (U9, U11, U13, and U15) this Saturday.  These will also be posted on our website.

IMPROVEMENTS BASED ON WHAT WE HEARD

Many families participated in the survey last month. Thanks to this feedback, the Charlottesville Bolts have refined and adapted the program. The following are several improvements we are pleased to announce:

  • Professional fitness training. We will be offering training/athletic conditioning for free to registered Bolts Fall Academy players and also to the general public for a per session fee.  These training sessions will be lacrosse specific; however they are open to any young athletes.  Area boys and girls are both welcome to participate in our athletic conditioning clinics.  Fitness trainings sessions are optional, but our players are encouraged to participate.  They will be offered midweek at a variety of times for different age groups.

  • Mentoring and player development program.  Every Bolts player will be evaluated individually by our coaching staff and will be given an individualized plan to improve.  All players will have homework in the form of wall ball/throwing drills.  All players will be re-evaluated at the end of the Bolts Fall Academy with a report and a new plan on how to continue to improve throughout the winter and into the spring leagues.

  • Pay-to-Play format in the fall.  Travel tournaments and home/away game sets will be on an actual per/cost, per/player basis.  We intend to enter games/tournaments with smaller rosters to allow for more playing time across the board.  If we have enough player interest per age group, we will enter multiple teams. We will participate in tournaments and game sets this Fall, including:

  • Seminole Fall Classic - Sunday, October 25th; Charlottesville, VA
  • Hogan Fall Brawl - Saturday/Sunday, November 14th and 15th; Baltimore, MD
  • Home/Away Game Sets - Teams and Dates; TBD
